<image:title>Home - Therapy is not about “getting advice” or being “told what to do”. It’s about getting to know yourself enough to make the decisions you know are best for you.</image:title>
<image:caption>Being a young person today is much harder than the world makes it out to be. Managing the transition from adolescence to young adulthood can be quite jarring, particularly during a time that is rife with uncertainty, fear and anxiety are at an all-time high, and our daily routines and rituals have been upended. I’m here to make space for you or your adolescent child to mourn the life we knew before March of 2020. I’m also here to provide tools to cope in the present, and a listening ear to sort through all the thoughts and feelings that reared their head when the noise of everyday life went quiet. I provide individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, life transitions, and loss. I approach my clinical practice through a lens that is strengths-based, intersectional, and trauma-informed. Call me for a free 20-minute consultation to determine if I can provide what you are looking for.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Approach - Internal Family Systems Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>I am currently training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). Internal Family Systems is a strengths-based approach to self exploration. IFS views strong emotions, patterns of behavior and dominating thoughts as “parts” that aim to protect the Self in response to trauma or life stressors. IFS therapy engages patients in exploring, understanding, and compassionately communicating with these parts. In my clinical work, I primarily utilize the IFS framework.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced-based practice for treating a variety of mental disorders including anxiety disorders, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. CBT examines the dynamic relationship between thoughts, feeling, and behaviors. CBT provides a variety of structured interventions to assist client with identifying maladaptive patterns of thought, so as to make negative emotions less overwhelming and to catalyze sustainable behavior change.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Approach - Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)</image:title>
<image:caption>SSP is a ground-breaking intervention developed by renowned scientist and author of Polyvagal Theory, Dr. Stephen Porges. This intervention utilizes music filtered at therapeutic frequencies to calm the nervous system and prime clients to be more receptive to the benefits of psychotherapy. SSP has been used to treat a variety of conditions ranging from inattention and focus issues to trauma and PTSD. You can learn more about SSP and Polyvagal Theory here.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Hi, I’m Emily!</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m a proponent of human-focused therapy. My approach to treatment is not centered around a diagnosis, it is guided by the individualized needs and experiences of my client. My clients would describe me as responsive, engaged and direct. I bring my authentic self to my work, which often means incorporating a social justice lens, pervasive curiosity, and a sense of humor. Since pursuing my Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I’ve worked in a wide variety of settings ranging from a mental health inpatient hospitalization program in rural North Carolina to a private group practice in Brooklyn, NY. I chose to pursue a career as an adolescent/young adult therapist because I am inspired by the potential for resilience and growth in young people, even in the face of unimaginable adversity.</image:caption>
